DRAPING A 6-YARD BEAUTY!

Hello readers! ❤

It has been a very busy weekend and I have been enjoying celebrating Mother's Day and Rabindra Jayanti together on May 8th, 2016. Rabindra Jayanti has always been very close to my heart. Being born and brought up in a traditional Indian Bengali family meant all about non vegetarian food, sweets, rabindra sangeet, sarees, mainly Bengal Handloom Sarees.

Saree - The term itself gives us all, a hint of Elegance. It is such a customary Indian Wear that symbolizes a character of Womanhood. In India, there are various events and celebrations where Women and young girls, drape themselves in different styles, colors and designs of sarees. Gone are the days when one's wear were only constrained to western outfits in gatherings and formal parties. Nowadays, sarees are turning out to be very well knownin kitty gatherings or be it birthday parties. Or be it a dinner supper with the associates or an euphoric weekend party with your companions - a saree can never ever go wrong.

Have anyone of you wondered, how Bengal Handloom Sarees are all about and what is its origin ? Today, I shall tell you all about the nitty-gritty about Handloom Sarees in this post.

Handloom sarees are a traditional textile art of Bangladesh and India. The completion of a single saree takes two to three days of work. Several regions have their own traditions of handloom sarees. A handloom saree is often woven on a shuttle - pit loom that are made of ropes, wooden beams and poles. The shuttle is thrown from side to side by the weaver. The other weavers use a fly - shuttle loom which can produce different types of patterns. The sarees can vary in different sizes, colors and quality.

In general, handloom sarees fall under family enterprises of India's Cottage Industries. They are either made up of Silk or Cotton threads. They mainly consist of 5 to 9 Yards in length and 2 to 4 feet in width that is usually wrapped like a normal saree. A wide variety of these sarees are picked directly by the visitors, across the universe. They are available in different fabric materials like Bandhani, Chiffon, Georgette, Bollywood, Bridal and Wedding.

Some of the well known Indian handloom sarees are Kanchipuram Silk, Maheshwari, Animal Print, Chanderi Silk, Tussar Silk, Banarasi Silk, Baluchari,  Sambalpuri, Kantha Stitch, Bandhani and Mungna Sarees. They are made up of good quality silks to give it a lustruous look.
